What to Expect After Invisalign®

What to Expect After Invisalign®

Your smile says a lot about you, and if you feel it’s not up to snuff, you have more orthodontic treatment options open to you now than ever before. You can choose traditional metal braces, lingual braces, which are attached to the backs of your teeth as opposed to the fronts, and Daemon braces, which don’t require elastic bands as part of the protocol.

A revolutionary treatment that has transformed many patients’ smiles are braces that others hardly realize you’re wearing: Invisalign. In this post, we discuss what makes Invisalign treatment unique, the incredible results you get, and aftercare habits that preserve your results.

Dr. Wayne Hickory saw the benefits of Invisalign for his patients early on, and he and the Embassy Row Orthodontics team have helped so many patients reach their orthodontic goals with Invisalign.

How does Invisalign work?

Rather than having a set of braces on your teeth over the long haul, Invisalign treatment involves wearing clear plastic aligners on your upper and lower teeth for 20 to 22 hours per day, with the ability to take a break when you eat and perform your dental hygiene routine. Over time, the aligners shift your teeth, correcting alignment issues, crowding, and other problems.

As your treatment progresses, you switch out your aligners about every couple of weeks. Dr. Hickory creates a completely personalized Invisalign treatment plan for you, and many patients complete their treatment in about a year. You can also complement your Invisalign treatment with an accelerated orthodontic treatment platform, which allows you to reach your goals even faster.

We prepare you for your treatment by photographing your teeth and performing a digital scan of them so we can produce a 3D rendering. This process allows Dr. Hickory to target his treatment plan for you very precisely. It even allows him to show you how your smile will look when your Invisalign treatment is complete.

Unlike traditional braces, you can take your aligners in and out, and eat and drink whatever you like during treatment. There is also no hassle with keeping the areas of your teeth beneath and around your braces clean and free from food debris — a definite challenge with regular braces.

Invisalign treatment is so popular because it offers:

With Invisalign, you’re not required to come in for lengthy adjustment appointments, and you bypass the discomfort that follows getting your braces adjusted.

What happens after treatment with Invisalign?

Orthodontic treatment generally involves wearing a retainer if you had standard braces. With Invisalign, you wear a different type of retainer, and its purpose is to preserve your Invisalign results and prevent your teeth from shifting again.

We offer VIvera retainers, which are just as invisible as your aligners were. Your retainer is also completely customized to your mouth and based on an impression of your teeth, just like your aligners were.

Caring for your Vivera retainer is simple:

Keeping your retainer away from water that’s too hot eliminates the possibility of it warping.

Maintenance is an important part of your treatment. After all, it would be a shame to lose any of the impressive results you enjoyed because of your initial commitment to treatment.
