Help! My Teeth are Yellow!

Help! My Teeth are Yellow!

If you notice your teeth aren’t as white as you’d like— they may even look yellow — don’t get too discouraged, there’s still hope! And it also may surprise you that this issue can be corrected at your orthodontist’s office.

That’s right, we don’t just correct alignment problems, straighten smiles, and otherwise beautify your smile through orthodontic treatments, such as braces and Invisalign®, we offer teeth whitening treatments too!

Dr. Wayne Hickory and the Embassy Row Orthodontics team can lighten and brighten your teeth and make your smile dazzle again, thanks to advanced whitening treatment. You can rely on us to gently, safely, and thoroughly address any discoloration issues affecting many people, so know you’re not alone.

Why are my teeth discolored?

Our teeth are exposed to so many agents that can cause discoloration and yellowing, including tobacco, wine, coffee, acidic foods, and medications, such as the antibiotic tetracycline.

You may not know that some staining is intrinsic, meaning it comes from within your teeth rather than something that comes into contact with your tooth surfaces. These are tough stains to remove on your own with products like whitening toothpastes, and really, professionally done whitening treatment is the only thing that will make a difference.

Tooth discoloration can also be the result of:

Yellowing of your teeth also happens as a natural part of aging. This occurs when the layer of your tooth below the enamel, the dentin, becomes discolored. The thinner your enamel becomes, the more visible your yellowed dentin is.

Even though many things can cause tooth discoloration, a single treatment offers the solution: Philips Zoom!® WhiteSpeed teeth whitening treatments.

What can I expect from teeth whitening treatment?

You’ll be surprised in a good way about how high-tech, comfortable, and easy Zoom teeth whitening is. As you relax in our office, Dr. Hickory applies a highly effective hydrogen peroxide gel during three office visits, where treatment lasts about 15 minutes. Some patients receive a fourth treatment if needed, which aligns with their treatment goals.

After Dr. Hickory coats your teeth with the gel, he directs a high-powered LED light on the gel. This activates it and speeds up the bleaching step.

Following your treatment, you receive custom trays with a whitening gel designed for home use and another gel — Relief® ACP Oral Care Gel — which addresses any sensitivity you might experience with treatment.

Our patients are consistently amazed and delighted with the results from Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed treatments because they can make your teeth up to an impressive eight shades lighter!

We consider teeth whitening treatment as the perfect finale for your orthodontic treatment journey. It complements your new smile by making it bright and something to truly be proud of. Teeth whitening is a patient-friendly, cost-effective treatment option that goes hand-in-hand with any treatment plan and is 100% effective in beautifying your pearly whites.

In addition to upping your confidence by making your teeth look fabulous, whitening treatment also improves oral health. It rids your tooth enamel of substances that weaken your teeth and negatively affect your oral health.

Call our convenient Dupont Circle office at 202-342-9600 to learn more or to schedule an appointment for Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed treatment. You can also request one online. And who knows? You may even meet Dr. Hickory’s Great Dane and our office mascot, Chouko Dai!
