washington-dc-orthodontist-publishes-orthodontic-treatment-goalsDr. Wayne Hickory writes a chapter for Cosmesis of the Mouth, Face and Jaws

Washington, DC – As one of the first orthodontists in the entire country to use the innovative treatment Invisalign®, Dr. Wayne B. Hickory, a Washington DC orthodontist, is well-qualified to contribute to one of the newest textbooks on facial aesthetics. The textbook, published by Wiley-Blackwell, strives to portray a holistic approach to facial treatments from medical to dental.

Writing a chapter for a medical and dental textbook is in alignment with Dr. Hickory’s commitment to education. He serves as an instructor of Invisalign® certification courses for fellow orthodontists and attends conferences to remain up-to-date in the field.

Dr. Hickory’s latest contribution to orthodontic education is a chapter for a new textbook on facial aesthetics for dentists, physicians and patients. He has co-authored a chapter titled Aesthetic Decisions in Adult Orthodontics in the recently published book: Cosmesis of the Mouth, Face and Jaws. This textbook brings together specialists from nine medical and dental specialties and aims to develop a synergistic view of facial aesthetics.

The chapter by Dr. Hickory and his co-author Dr. Rohit Sachdeva reviews a systematic decision process that creates treatment objectives for optimal cosmetic results. The chapter highlights how new digital technology – including Invisalign® and SureSmile™– facilitate the process of creating aesthetic orthodontic treatment goals.

The goals of Dr. Hickory’s own private practice extend beyond the cosmetic, as an aesthetically pleasing smile includes benefits such as:

  • A widely-recognized boost of self-confidence
  • A better first impression in social and business relationships
  • Substantial health benefits

Before opening his Washington DC orthodontics practice, Dr. Hickory was heavily involved in orthodontic research and taught as a full-time faculty member of the Orthodontic Department at the University of Amsterdam and the University of Maryland. He continues to offer orthodontic courses internationally and hosts doctors from Europe and Asia for advanced courses. He carries this excitement for education into his publishing endeavors.

Hosted at the Hawaii Convention Center on Oahu, the 112th Annual Session welcomed 14,200 orthodontists and staff members to discuss the latest advancements and techniques in modern orthodontics. Dr. Hickory says the event provided his team with valuable information for helping enhance the quality of patient care at his practice. At his practice, the Washington, DC orthodontist focuses on a wide variety of procedures ranging from lingual braces to Invisalign  Dr. Hickory says attending events like the AAO meeting and other courses allow him and his staff to place a continued emphasis on patient care by pursuing the most effective techniques available in the field of orthodontics. He adds that his recent courses in Asia helped further his education through the sharing of knowledge and recent advancements in orthodontic techniques.

Washington DC Orthodontist Offers Latest in Invisalign Technology

washington_dc_orthodontist_offers_latest_in_invisalign_technologyAlign Technology, Inc, the manufacturer of Invisalign®, has recently released the latest model of corrective orthodontic technology known as the Invisalign® G4, utilizing SmartForce® clinical innovations to treat misaligned teeth in patients. Dr. Wayne Hickory, an orthodontist in Washington, DC, is now offering the advanced treatment to his patients seeking a more aesthetically structured smile. Dr. Hickory says the new treatment offers patients more predictable results without braces.

Washington, DC orthodontist Dr. Wayne Hickory has announced that he is providing the latest in Invisalign® procedures recently released from Align Inc. The Invisalign® G4 utilizes SmartForce® technology and offers further correction for misaligned teeth and enhanced results by improving predictability of movement and providing greater root tip control. Dr. Hickory says the new innovations can be particularly beneficial to patients suffering from anterior open bites and those who wish to have a great smile but do not want to wear braces.

The Invisalign® G4 combines precision force systems and virtual modeling to provide more predictable tooth movements and eliminate interferences with custom positioning. Through multiple points of contact and pressure with the tooth, the clear braces technology can be used for space closure, tooth alignment, uprighting, and other clinical applications. Dr. Hickory says the recent introduction of optimized attachments to the aligners offers more precise pressure and delivers forces to teeth in three dimensions so as to achieve predicted alignment. He also says that using leverage of the back (posterior) teeth can also provide an anchor to help move the front (anterior) teeth and correct open bites. Published case examples now show Invisalign to be more effective than braces for open bite cases. He adds that the results he achieves with Invisalign G4 are also more stable.

Dr. Hickory says patients seeking Invisalign in Washington, DC will now be able to have the most advanced corrective procedure for misaligned teeth available. He says he is excited about the new technology because it offers patients improved results including correction of occlusion (fit of the teeth or bite) and alignment, which leads to greater confidence with one’s smile.

Washington DC Orthodontist Now Offering Clear Braces Without Impressions

washington_dc_orthodontist_now_offering_clear_braces_without_impressionsDr. Wayne Hickory, a Washington DC Super Elite Invisalign® provider, is announcing the recent adoption of 3D scanning technology, which will allow him to create an accurate model of his patients teeth without impressions. Dr. Hickory says some of his patients are not comfortable with the process of making impressions for the Invisalign® clear braces system. In addition to eliminating the need for impressions, he says the model created by the 3D scanning technology is more accurate.

Dr. Wayne Hickory is an orthodontist in Washington DC and one of the countries few Invisalign® Super Elite providers. He is announcing the implementation of a new 3D scanning technology that will allow him and his Embassy Row Orthodontics team to create molds for the teeth aligning procedure known as Invisalign® without the need for impressions. Dr. Hickory adds that he is excited to be able to offer this technology to his patients because the new digital camera not only eliminates the need for impressions, but also creates a more accurate 3D model of his patients teeth.

In the past, Dr. Hickory says when patients decided to straighten their smiles with Invisalign in Washington DC, they often expressed some concern over the process of creating the clear molds with impressions. However, as one of the first in the Washington DC area to have this capability, he says patients can now achieve the smile they have always wanted and avoid the uncomfortable process of making the molds.

Before adopting any new technology or cutting-edge procedure, Dr. Hickory says he first addresses the overall safety and comfort of his patients, as well as the effectiveness of the product. “We have found the digital camera, while taking a little longer than an impression, is more comfortable for most patients. Because the data is received almost immediately by Align Technology the results are faster than waiting to mail an impression. Since the scanner is like a high resolution video camera we see no safety issues. Most significant is the quality of the images. We no longer have the distortion that sometimes occurs with impressions requiring the inconvenience of re-taking them.”
