Damon Braces

Dr. Hickory uses Damon orthodontic brackets (braces) because he believes they are the most cosmetic, most comfortable and most efficient bracket system available. They are manufactured by Ormco, one of America’s leading orthodontic companies. This system represents years of research and development.

Damon brackets are self-ligating. This means they do not need the elastic ties to hold in the wires into the brackets. Each bracket has a “door” that closes to connect to the wire. For kids who want a few colorful ties on their front teeth we can still do that. The benefit of the self-ligating brackets is that the wire is free to slide with less friction. This means faster treatment. Elastic ties tend to discolor and are difficult to keep clean, so self-ligating brackets are more aesthetic and more hygienic.

We use super-elastic wires made from titanium that while gentle and very flexible also keep their elasticity for 12 weeks. This means we need fewer office visits to change wires, especially with brackets that do not need new ties.
